Linda would like to welcome everyone to Wallington Sports Club, located in Hillside Gardens, Wallington. The clubhouse here serves as a great spot for families and friends to gather, enjoy a drink, watch cricket matches, and follow their favourite teams on Sky Sports. Beyond cricket, the club also offers a variety of other sports sections for members.
For the darts enthusiasts, there are three teams that play regularly, which also helps generate important revenue for the club. Linda ensures there's never a dull moment, with various events hosted throughout the year. The Family Fun Day is the highlight, but there are also Halloween parties, New Year's Eve celebrations, race nights, and much more.
Wallington Sports Club was established in 1971, although its history goes back to 1921 under the name Wallington Cricket Club Ltd. The land was initially purchased by selling shares, and the initials of the main directors inspired the name of Cosdach Avenue. Initially, only cricket was played at the club, even during the war years. Post-World War II, other sports like hockey and tennis joined the roster.
In 1971, the club was renamed Wallington Sports Club and granted a 100-year lease, promising to promote and encourage a variety of sports. Cricket continues to be played every weekend, and there's also a strong ladies' Lifeline Netball section, drawing in many community members.
Linda recalls the unfortunate fire in 1994 that destroyed the old wooden clubhouse, but it was rebuilt and reopened in 1997. Today, as a community-centric club, Wallington Sports Club also allows Bandon Hill School to use its facilities. This has helped attract more social members and provides cricket training to many children through the colts section.
Linda invites everyone to visit Wallington Sports Club and experience the fantastic facilities and friendly atmosphere. For further enquiries, please contact the clubhouse at 0208 6698878.
