About

Re a fly-fishing club in Central London called WALTHAMSTOW FLY FISHERS CLUB (WFFC). The club is designed for individuals who have a passion for fly-fishing and enjoy spending time outdoors. The club aims to provide opportunities for those who may not have the chance to escape to more rural fishing spots.

For beginners who are interested in learning fly-fishing, the club offers teaching and guiding experiences led by Andrew Hathaway. Andrew will provide instruction on water understanding and fishing techniques that will help beginners catch fish in the reservoirs. If you already have some experience and want to go fishing on your own, don't hesitate to ask WFFC members for advice. They are usually out on the water most days and are more than willing to share their expertise.

The club also holds various competitions throughout the year, including the annual Macmillan Cancer Support charity competition. This event is supported by Thames Water, who provide fantastic prizes for participants. Despite the challenging fishing conditions, the anglers' spirits remain high, and the fish caught during the competition are of great quality. Gary Morris emerged as the winner of the competition, earning a 4&5 season ticket as the top prize.

Chairman Peter Baker regularly releases club reports to keep members in the loop about recent events and developments. In addition to these reports, Peter Baker has also produced the first of his quarterly newsletters, which aim to provide members with updates on club news.

The club's Autumn League is a hotly contested competition, with more than five anglers having a chance to win and claim an engraved anniversary fly box. Even if you're not in the running for the league title, you can still participate and possibly win the pot if you catch the biggest fish. This competition offers a great social event where you can learn about the best flies, lines, and techniques that worked on the day. After the competition, you can enjoy a beer or coke at the Ferry Boat.

The club organises various trips and fishing excursions, such as the annual trip to Farmoor Reservoir in Oxford. This trip provides a great opportunity for members to fish and enjoy a day out. Anglers can use a variety of methods, including using snakes, buzzers, and dries, with buzzers and nymphs being the most successful. Thames Water has generously waived fishing fees for Walthamstow season ticket holders, adding to the enjoyment of the trip.

For those interested in joining the club or participating in any of the events, the club's website provides information about the 2022/2023 season fixtures. WALTHAMSTOW FLY FISHERS CLUB is a welcoming and active fly-fishing club that offers opportunities for both beginners and experienced anglers to enjoy their passion for fly-fishing in Central London.
