Dedicated, and passionate about promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Ability to communicate effectively and motivate others. Commitment to promoting physical activity and engaging with the local community. Experience in organising and leading group activities is a plus, but not required.
Wannabe Healthy Womens Walking is a sports club located in Tenterfield Shire Council, dedicated to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through walking. The club is proudly supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia and aims to build connexions within the community while working towards a healthier heart together.
The club offers free Personal Walking Plans, which help individuals feel healthier and happier within six weeks. These plans are tailored to each individual's needs, ensuring that they receive the maximum benefits from their walking routine. By walking for an average of 30 minutes a day, club members can reduce their risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. Regular walking has also been proven to manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of certain cancers, improve bone density, and enhance balance and coordination.
Healthcare professionals are encouraged to refer their patients to the club's structured and supportive walking programme. Whether individuals prefer to walk alone or in a group, the motivational programme can be customised to meet the national physical activity guidelines. The club recognises the importance of collaboration between healthcare providers and aims to complement their care by promoting physical activity as a fundamental aspect of overall health and wellbeing.
Wannabe Healthy Womens Walking boasts a vibrant and supportive walking community, with over 600 walking groups nationwide. Individuals can easily search for a walking group within a specified radius and join a group near their location. Walk Organisers play a vital role in the programme, planning walking routes, setting meeting times and places, and welcoming new members to their groups. They are recognised and rewarded for their dedication towards promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The club also encourages members to join the Facebook group, where they can connect with like-minded individuals, share their walking experiences, and support one another on their fitness journeys.
To get started with Wannabe Healthy Womens Walking, individuals can search for a walking group near their location and register for their preferred group. The Walk Organisers will provide all necessary information to help new members get started. The club also encourages individuals to consider becoming Volunteer Walk Organisers themselves and lead a Heart Foundation Walking group in their community. Training and support are provided to Volunteer Walk Organisers, and they receive ongoing communications, invitations to events and workshops, as well as a thank you gift for their commitment.
