Ward Road Gym

Mike Scott-Flynn would like to share some updates about Ward Road Gym with the sports community. Situated near the centre of Dundee and run by Ward Road Gym Sports Development (Dundee) Co. Ltd, a registered charity in Scotland, Ward Road Gym is committed to making sports and exercise accessible to everyone.

Mike and his fellow volunteer Directors, Stewart Clark, Frank Fullerton, Richard Campbell, Kathleen Mands, Geoffrey Weir, and Arthur Pritchard, work hard to maintain a welcoming venue for athletes and spectators of all ages and abilities.

Ward Road Gym Sports Development (Dundee) Co. Ltd was established on December 9th, 2002, and operates as a company limited by guarantee without share capital. Mike wants to remind everyone that the gym’s website is kindly hosted by 34SP.com.

In May 2021, the gym upgraded its lighting system, thanks to a 30% financial contribution from Zero Waste Scotland. Energy-efficient LED lights were installed in the gym hall and mezzanine, at a cost exceeding £14,000. This upgrade improves the user experience and supports environmental sustainability.

The gym takes pride in hosting events like the Scottish Primary Schools Championships in Table Tennis, held on Sunday, November 28, 2021, which garnered positive feedback from the organisers. A detailed report from Table Tennis Scotland is available for those interested.

Mike also wishes to honour Sandy Elrick, the past Chairman who significantly contributed to the preservation and rejuvenation of Ward Road Gym. Sandy's legacy continues to inspire, and he was fondly remembered at his funeral on October 1st at the Dundee Crematorium.
