WBC Women's Boxing Club, located in Digbeth, Birmingham, is a boxing club dedicated to empowering and motivating women through the sport of boxing. Founded in November 2014 by Jason Lowe and Mav Akram, WBC has become a seven-time award-winning club, recognised for its outstanding contribution to female boxing and fitness.
The inspiration behind WBC came from the rise of women's involvement in boxing following the extraordinary achievements of athletes like Nicola Adams and Katie Taylor at the 2012 Olympics. WBC aims to break down barriers and promote the belief that anyone can box, regardless of their gender or background.
Situated at the Community Aero Kick gym, WBC offers both group sessions and one-on-one training for women of all fitness levels. The group sessions are led and guided by experienced coaches, providing a supportive and inclusive environment for newcomers and experienced boxers alike. It is not just about the physical aspects of boxing; it is also an opportunity for women to set realistic goals, lose weight, and have fun while gaining an incredible sense of achievement.
For those who prefer a more personalised approach, WBC offers one-on-one sessions with qualified male and female boxing coaches. These sessions focus on individual needs and goals, providing specialised training to enhance boxing techniques and overall fitness.
WBC takes pride in its achievements and has been honoured multiple times. In April 2015, it was voted the number one boxing club by Box Nation. In September 2016, WBC won the prestigious Club of the Year award at the Birmingham Sports Awards. The club has also been recognised as the Community Club of the Year by Sport Birmingham in November 2018 and as the Club of the Year by the Birmingham Prestige Awards in June 2019.
In addition, Mav Akram, one of the founders of WBC, was crowned the winner of the Woman in Sports Awards in 2021 and won the Health and Fitness award by Sisters in Business in 2022.
WBC has had the privilege of working with over 50 world champions, including renowned boxers such as Katie Taylor, Nigel Benn, Joe Calzaghe, Ray Mancini, and Anthony Joshua. With their expertise and guidance, WBC provides top-quality training and mentorship to its members, inspiring them to reach their full potential.
Whether you are a seasoned boxer or have never stepped into a boxing ring before, WBC Women's Boxing Club welcomes you. It is a place where women can challenge themselves, build strength, and break society's stereotypes. So put on your gloves, join the WBC family, and experience the exhilaration of boxing while becoming the best version of yourself.
