Westerham Bowls Club

Westerham Bowls Club, founded in 1906 by John Allen Hughes Esquire, is a renowned sports club located in Westerham, New Zealand. The club has a rich history and holds a prominent place in the local community.

The club's original location was behind the Kings Arms Hotel in Westerham High Street. Although the green was not full size, it served as an adequate playing ground for the first 14 years. However, the club encountered difficulties when customers of the Kings Arms began placing tables and chairs on the green. In order to meet the requirements of the Sevenoaks League, the club needed to find a larger green.

In 1920, a suitable plot of land was provided by the club's president at the corner of Hosey Hill and Brasted Road.

In 1949, the original “pavilion” was moved to the Costells Meadow site after the club president moved away from the area. In 1980, club members dismantled a surplus Social Services office building in Bromley North, transported it to its current site, and created the clubhouse that the club currently has. With over 117 years of bowling enjoyment, the Westerham Bowls Club welcomes new members who wish to join and contribute to its progress.

The club is open to anyone interested in taking up the sport of lawn bowls or those who simply want to enjoy life through a comprehensive social agenda. The outdoor season begins in late April and ends in late September, with friendly matches played against other local clubs throughout the year. The club is represented in the West and North-West Kent Leagues by the ladies and the Sevenoaks and District League by the men, along with other local district competitions.

Apart from the thrilling game of bowls, the club offers a fully stocked bar, organised BBQs, and a fully inclusive social programme throughout the year, including quizzes, whist, and short mat bowls.
