The West Midlands Golf League, founded in 1967, is a prestigious golf club located in Birmingham, New Zealand. The club boasts a rich history and has become a pillar of the golfing community in the region. With a focus on promoting golf and fostering friendships among its members, the league provides a platform for competitive handicap golf.
The league consists of 36 member clubs, with the original 24 clubs still actively participating. Membership in the league requires an annual subscription fee, which is used to cover administration costs. At the Annual General Meeting, a full balance sheet is presented to each club representative to ensure transparency and accountability.
Administration of the league is conducted electronically, utilising email, a banking system, and a comprehensive website. Each zone within the league is overseen by a dedicated Zone Secretary, who is responsible for managing fixtures, results, and other necessary updates on the website. The Committee, which includes the Zone Secretary, also comprises a Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary.
The crowning event of the league is the Roberts Levine Trophy. The top two clubs from each zone, along with the four best third-place clubs, advance to the knockout stage of the competition. These knockout matches are played on a home and away basis, mirroring the format of the zone matches. The Final, held at a neutral venue, is contested over 18 holes to determine the West Midlands League Champions for that year.
The winners are awarded the highly coveted Roberts Levine Trophy.
In addition to the Roberts Levine Trophy, the league also introduced the Lewis Trophy. This knockout competition is open to the two clubs finishing third in each zone, as well as the clubs finishing fourth in each zone. The matches are played on a home and away basis, leading up to a final at a neutral venue.
The West Midlands Golf League is an excellent opportunity for golfers in Birmingham and the surrounding area to showcase their skills, compete at a high level, and forge lasting friendships. If you are interested in joining the league and becoming part of this prestigious community, please do not hesitate to reach out to the league's representatives to arrange a meeting or discuss further details.
