The Westminster Old Scholars Football Club, fondly known as WOSFC or the Dragons, has a rich history that dates back to its formation in 1969. The club joined the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) in the same year and quickly made a name for itself with a series of successful seasons. Within just five years, the club rose from A4 to A2.
However, as is often the case with amateur clubs, the priorities of players changed over time due to careers and family commitments. This led to a period of rebuilding for the club, as a new group of players needed time to gel and regain their competitiveness. The Dragons spent several years battling their way back in A4, but the strain of players also administering the club became overwhelming. As a result, the club disbanded at the end of the 1981 season.
It wasn't until 19 years later, in 2000, that the Westminster Old Scholars Football Club was resurrected. A group of 18 and 19-year-olds, mainly from Westminster School, resolved to bring back an Old Scholars team. In the two years leading up to its reformation, the boys played at Colonel Light Gardens while administrative arrangements were made. Their hard work paid off in their inaugural season, as the club clinched the Division 7 A Grade leadingship and achieved runners-up status in the B Grade.
Since then, the Westminster Old Scholars Football Club has continued to thrive, establishing itself as a respected and formidable presence in the AFL community. The club is proud to have strong support from major sponsors such as Lakeside Goowla, Equipe Advisory, B L SHIPWAY, Westminster Old Scholars Association (W. O. S.
A. ), Sturt Stump Cutters, Hall Towbars, Maid of Auckland Hotel, and cpc. LAWYERS.
The Dragons offer a range of supporter merchandise to show your pride in the club, including items like the Dragons topship Beer, Dragons All Weather Jacket in green, Dragons Yeti Water Bottle (760ml), Dragons Hoodie, and Dragons Training & Leisure Shorts. These items are available for purchase through our online shop.
