Dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle. Passionate about creating connexions within the community.
The Wild Orchids Walking Group is a sports club located in Campaspe Shire, dedicated to promoting the benefits of walking for a healthier heart. The club is proudly supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia and aims to build connexions within the community while encouraging members to embark on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle.
Walking regularly has been proven to have numerous health benefits. It can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 per cent. It also helps manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Walking can reduce the risk of developing certain cancers, maintain bone density, and improve balance and coordination, reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
The Wild Orchids Walking Group provides an opportunity for members to join a supportive community that emphasises the importance of regular physical activity. Walking in a group not only promotes accountability but also offers a sense of camaraderie and connexion. Members can enjoy the social aspect of walking while reaping the physical and mental health benefits.
One of the motivating factors behind the Wild Orchids Walking Group is Maria, a group walker who shares her inspiring story. After struggling with weight issues, diabetes, and blood pressure problems for over 40 years, Maria decided to take control of her health. She started with just 5,000 steps a day and gradually increased it to 15,000 steps a day. As a result, she is no longer diabetic and has improved her overall health, both mentally and physically.
Joining the Wild Orchids Walking Group is effortless. Prospective members can search for a walking group within a specified radius from their location. Once a group is found, registration is simple, requiring a few details about the individual. Contact with the Walk Organiser is then established, who will provide all the necessary information to get started.
For those passionate about promoting a healthier lifestyle and connecting with the community, the Wild Orchids Walking Group also offers the opportunity to become a Volunteer Walk Organiser. These individuals play a vital role in planning walking routes, determining meeting places and times, welcoming new members, and ensuring the smooth running of the group. Walk Organisers receive training, ongoing support and communication, and invitations to special events and workshops.
Join the Wild Orchids Walking Group today and embark on a journey towards a healthier heart, a stronger community, and a happier life.
