Mark wishes to pass on a little update about Woodend BLTC. As one of the prominent hockey clubs in the west end of Glasgow, it's home to over 250 active players in both men's and ladies' sections. Sundays see over a hundred kids turning up for junior training, and the Wednesday Futures programme gives boys and girls the chance to hone their skills with the club's dedicated coaches.
For Mark, it's all about providing a supportive and inclusive environment, regardless of skill level. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a complete newbie, there’s something for everyone. The club's Silver Accreditation from Scottish Hockey stands testament to its commitment to excellence.
But it’s not just about hockey; the club is buzzing with social events too. From the Annual Awards Dinner to the Hallowe’en bash, Ronnie's Quiz, Race Night, and the West End Treasure Hunt, there’s always something happening. The clubhouse, also known as Woodend BLTC, is where members gather to unwind and share stories post-match.
The men's side fields seven outdoor teams and four indoor ones, competing all over Scotland. The ladies' section has five outdoor and two indoor teams. The junior section is thriving with numerous hockey festivals throughout the season.
What sets Woodend BLTC apart is its partnership with LEAP Sports Scotland, being the only hockey club registered with them. This collaboration is pivotal in promoting inclusion and fighting against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in sports.
For the latest goings-on, fixtures, and results, head over to the club's social media channels. You can follow accounts for the men's, ladies', and juniors' teams to stay updated on socials, pitch conditions, and upcoming events.
Mark's vision is simple: inspire people to get involved in hockey and offer them the chance to enjoy the sport at any level they wish. It’s all about fun, friendliness, and excitement, celebrating the countless benefits hockey brings to individuals and communities.
