Woolston Boxing Club, right here in Christchurch, NZ, is where the local boxing magic happens! Founded in 1967 by the late Ron Mitchell, this club has a rich history in New Zealand's boxing world. They're part of the Canterbury Boxing Association and go head-to-head in tournaments all over the country.
At Woolston, Angus and the crew are all about teaching you the ropes of boxing – the techniques, the discipline, and all the skills you need to dominate as an amateur boxer. They welcome anyone from 10 to 40 years old, with an awesome points-based system that keeps things fair and competitive.
Classes cater to different ages and skill levels, with Youth Classes for ages 8 and up on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 pm. For the seniors (17+), there’s the Competition Class from 6:00-7:00 pm on the same days. And, for those ready to take it up a notch, there’s an invite-only Competitor Class on Fridays from 6:00-7:30 pm.
Membership? It’s all about supporting the club. Kids 8-17 chip in $100 a year, and those 18+ donate $200 annually. These donations keep Woolston running smoothly and in top shape.
Safety first at Woolston – headgear, mouth guards, and other protective gear are a must. Dedicated refs and judges keep an eagle eye on the action, making sure everything stays safe and fair.
The Woolston crew is all about passion and dedication. They train hard, support each other, and make sure everyone feels part of the team. It’s all about camaraderie and teamwork here.
