Andy here, extending a warm welcome from WHO Racing in Worthing, UK. Since its start in February 2010, Andy and the team have aimed to make WHO Racing a not-for-profit club that’s all about competitive yet friendly racing for everyone, regardless of age or skill.
Andy is proud to share that the club meets twenty-four times a year for a mix of 1/64 scale slot car racing and Scalextric digital racing. You can check out videos, plan your visit to "The Barn," and learn more about WHO Racing on their website.
Make sure to have a look at the 2023 race calendar on the Racing page. There's also exciting Slot Rally racing planned for 2024. To keep up with the latest news, follow WHO Racing on Facebook and the SlotRacer club forum.
Mark your calendar for the next race, Nascar, on Wednesday, 1st November 2023, at The Barn in the English Martyrs Church Hall in Goring-by-Sea. Practice starts at 6:30 pm, with racing kicking off at 7 pm and wrapping up by 9:30 pm. Entry fees are £3 for adults and £2 for under-16s.
WHO Racing operates as a not-for-profit club with a written constitution and an elected organising team. The club is affiliated with Voluntary Action Worthing and has a child protection policy. Andy and Simon, key members, have DBS certificates to ensure a safe environment. Children aged twelve and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
For visual content, Andy and the team ask for consent before including young racers in photos and videos. The privacy policy ensures that any personal data is handled responsibly.
There's no formal membership at WHO Racing. Once you join your first race, you're considered a "WHO racer.” Race fees are paid at the door, and there's also an annual season ticket available. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Since 2014, WHO Racing has expanded to include Scalextric digital racing with Mike Dadson's help. This now takes up half the calendar at The Barn, bringing the same accessible, family-friendly fun as HO racing.
The HO Racing format includes 30 minutes of practice, four two-minute heats on different lanes, and finals to determine positions and points. Medals are awarded to winners and the highest-finishing junior racer (under 16).
The term “HO” refers to the small scale of the slot cars, originally from the model railway world. Modern HO slot cars are nearly 1/64th scale and are made by manufacturers like Tomy AFX, Micro Scalextric, Auto World, and Viper.
So whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to slot car racing, Andy and the WHO Racing team welcome you to join the community and enjoy the thrill of racing. Keep an eye on the website and social media for upcoming events and updates.
