Wyfold Riding for the Disabled, a local horse riding club in Henley-on-Thames, is gearing up for an exciting upcoming event that is set to captivate horse riding enthusiasts across the region. This spirited group is known for its dedication to providing therapeutic horse riding activities for individuals with disabilities, and they rely on the support of their community to continue their important work.
As a non-profit organisation, Wyfold Riding for the Disabled depends solely on donations and fundraising events to cover their annual operating costs, which surpass an impressive £40,000. They also require funds for the regular replacement of ponies and equipment, as well as the maintenance of their yard facilities. The support they receive from their community is absolutely vital.
Throughout the year, the charity hosts an array of engaging fundraising events to generate the much-needed funds. They extend their heartfelt appreciation to Ronnie Englishby, a devoted supporter who raised over £1,000 by embarking on an awe-inspiring trek along The Camino de Santiago. They are also incredibly grateful for personal donations, no matter the amount.
Wyfold Riding for the Disabled offers a fantastic 'Adopt a Pony' scheme, which is perfect for families and individuals who wish to make a tangible and lasting contribution to the organisation's noble cause. They are also fortunate enough to receive corporate support from a range of local companies and organisations. Donations can be easily made through their user-friendly website.
Even during the tumultuous times of the pandemic in 2021, the indomitable spirit of this group shone through. Zara Campbell-Harris, one of their dedicated volunteers, crafted a beautiful quilt that was raffled off, raising an astounding £2,150 for the charity. In addition, Nicola Lee, the 17-year-old daughter of the Chairman of Trustees, demonstrated incredible determination by running a whopping 48 miles in just 48 hours, raising an impressive £1,700.
Looking back to 2020, Wyfold Riding for the Disabled received a generous donation of £1,500 from Paul Fairweather of the Henley Show. Not to be outdone in their fundraising efforts, the young Saturday volunteers of the charity went above and beyond by organising a local relay lockdown bike ride, raising a notable £1,123. David Walters, an esteemed Wyfold Trustee, took on the challenge of cycling through the demanding Brecon Beacons, ultimately raising an outstanding £1,400. Additionally, Mairead Comeford, a friend of Wyfold, contributed to the cause by designing and selling masks, resulting in a generous £500 donation.
The achievements of this remarkable charity are truly inspirational. Liz Jones, a member of the Wednesday Team, completed the Abingdon Marathon in an astonishing 3 hours and 45 minutes. Not only did she triumphantly cross the finishing line, but she also took the time to stop for photos and engage in friendly conversation. Rising above any limitations and defying age stereotypes, Liz, at 58 years old, secured first place in the over 55's women's event. Wyfold Riding for the Disabled is immensely grateful for the unwavering support they have received, and they enthusiastically encourage others to join in their fundraising endeavours through various online platforms and local events.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to support this incredible charity and witness the joy that their horse riding event will undoubtedly bring. Spread the word, donate, and become a significant part of the Wyfold Riding for the Disabled community. Together, we can make a lasting impact and positively transform the lives of individuals with disabilities through the power of horse riding.
