Zanshin Ryu Ltd

Pete Wright, the organiser of Zanshin Ryu Ltd, wanted to share a quick note with everyone in our sports community here in Southend-on-Sea.

For over 20 years, Pete has been leading Zanshin Ryu Ltd, a martial arts school he started with a focus on high-quality Karate training. He's got a 7th Dan black belt and is pretty committed to keeping standards high. What's cool is that over these two decades, only a few students have earned a Black Belt, which shows just how serious the training is. Pete keeps reminding everyone how important it is to honour what that belt stands for.

Some of you might know that back in January 2020, Simon Weaver from our group earned his Shihan rank, officially making him a Karate Master. Simon, who’s now at 5th Dan, got there through a lot of hard work and commitment. This achievement was unanimously recognised by the AMA Executive Committee, a big nod to his dedication.

Also, let’s give a shoutout to Bernie Mabey. He reached his 5th Dan rank on July 1st, 2023. Pete and Simon were there grading him through some pretty tough tests like Kihon Ido Yon and various Kata. Bernie’s skill, especially in Kumite, was top-notch, earning him the rank of Shihan.

Zanshin Ryu Ltd has a packed training schedule to fit everyone’s needs—whether you’re new, a seasoned practitioner, or anywhere in between. You can find classes throughout the week at spots like Thorpe Greenways, Friars Primary & Nursery, Hamstel Junior School, Ambleside Social Club, Porters Grange School, Our Lady of Lourdes, Sacred Heart School, and Trinket Box - Greenways School. There are sessions for kids, beginners, coloured belts, and advanced folks, so you can train at your own pace.
