Archery Western Australia (AWA), formerly known as the Archery Society of Western Australia, was established in 1939 as the governing body for the sport of archery in Western Australia. AWA is the only archery group in the state aligned with the Archery Association of Australia and has direct links to the international body of World Archery.
Membership of AWA is available through affiliation with one of their clubs, and individuals of all ages are welcome to join. Both older archers and juniors play an integral role in the activities of the Association and local clubs. Affiliated archers aged 16 and above have voting rights within the Association and enjoy benefits such as appropriate insurance and public liability coverage. Members also have the privilege of participating in state-sanctioned events, State Championships, National Championships, and other open international events sanctioned by World Archery.
AWA is operated by a dedicated group of volunteers. The Association's Committee consists of various executive and administrative officers, as well as representatives from each club, several committees, and individuals who represent the Association on external bodies like the Olympic Council, Sports Federation, and Shooting Association. These officers and committees meet monthly to address the Association's affairs and members are encouraged to actively participate in the administration.
Volunteers are crucial to the functioning of AWA, as they fill positions within the committee and contribute their skills and time. These volunteers play a significant role in the development of archery in Western Australia and often work behind the scenes. AWA has had the privilege of hosting various national and international championships, including the 1996 National Junior Championships, the 1999 National Indoor Championships, the 2001 combined National Indoor and Outdoor Championships, and the 2003 National Junior Championships.
AWA is grateful for the support of its sponsors, the Government of Western Australia and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
