The heart of Litchfield Municipality, you will find the thriving sports club, Darwin Top End Bowhunters Inc. This unique club offers a sport that the whole family can enjoy, regardless of age or skill level. With a limited supply of bows and arrows available for hire at reasonable rates, it's never been easier to give bowhunting a try.
The club operates on Wednesdays and Sundays, providing a variety of shooting opportunities. On Wednesdays, members can enjoy a social shoot from 6pm to 8pm. Sundays are dedicated to the weekly shoot, consisting of a challenging 20-target round from 8:30am to 1pm. Nominations for shoots close at 9:30am, so be sure to arrive on time to secure your spot.
Darwin Top End Bowhunters also hosts competition rounds throughout the year. Nominations for these rounds close 30 minutes prior to the start time, which is usually 8:30am. It's important to note that the club is closed on most long weekends, so be sure to check the calendar on their website for any upcoming closures.
Visitors are more than welcome to attend the club during operating hours on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Club members are always available to give newcomers a tour of the grounds and answer any questions they may have about becoming a member.
Becoming a member of Darwin Top End Bowhunters is not only a great way to get involved in a fulfilling sport, but it's also an affordable option for singles, couples, and families. Equipment hire is available, with a bow and three arrows costing a $20 deposit plus a $10 hire fee. Additionally, an arm guard and finger tab can be hired for a $5 deposit. Please note that the club only accepts cash payments, and EFTPOS is not available.
Throughout the year, the club organises a variety of exciting events for members to participate in. Major archery events include the Australia Day Competition in January, the May Day Competition in April/May, the Traditional Shoot in July, the Inter-Club Competition, the 3D Competition in August, and the Club Championship in November. Fun activities such as Flu Flu arrow shoots, “V” shoots, Noughts and Crosses, Steel pig, and Money Shoots are also organised regularly.
Darwin Top End Bowhunters Inc. was established in 1974 and originally operated under the name “Bowmen of the NT. ” In 1975, the club changed its name to its current form, Darwin Top End Bowhunters Inc. Operating from a small area at Mararra Sports Ground, the club has grown and thrived over the years, offering a fantastic environment for bowhunters of all levels of experience.
For those interested in becoming a member, membership fees are due on 1st March each year. Renewal fees are non-refundable and failure to renew by March 1st will result in being uninsured and unable to participate or shoot on club grounds until membership is renewed. Family, adult, junior, and senior memberships are available at different rates, and new members are welcome to join throughout the year with fees based on a pro rata quarterly basis.
Darwin Top End Bowhunters Inc. is proud to carry its own insurance to ensure the safety and well-being of its members. Visitors and non-members are welcome to attend the club's shoots for free for the first three times, after which shooting costs apply. Sunday shoots cost $5 for adults and $2 for juniors.
Please note that enclosed footwear and a quiver for arrows are required to participate in Sunday shoots.
