Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club is a thriving sports club located in Hobart, Tasmania. Situated on the picturesque Derwent River, the club's clubhouse is situated at the Motor Yacht Club in Lindisfarne. The club is dedicated to the exhilarating and rapidly growing sport of dragon boat racing.
Dragon boat racing has gained significant popularity in Australia and is now recognised as a major competitive sport for individuals of all ages and genders. It is an inclusive sport that welcomes participants aged 12 and above who are eager to challenge themselves and improve their fitness levels. Many of our paddlers have experienced tremendous fitness gains and use dragon boat paddling as a means of engaging in a fun and exciting team sport. By joining our club, not only do members have the opportunity to meet like-minded men and women, but they also have the chance to compete on a national level.
Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club provides its paddlers with the chance to represent their state in various competitions. Since 2011, the club has sent a Tasmanian team to the Australian Dragon Boat National Championships. Our club caters to a wide range of fitness and skill levels, making it an inviting environment for beginners as well as experienced sports paddlers.
New members are warmly welcomed at Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club. The club offers Come and Try sessions on Saturday mornings, where prospective members can experience what dragon boat paddling is all about. The first session is free, and the following three sessions cost $30. 00 in total.
If participants decide to join the club after these sessions, the $30. 00 fee is deducted from their annual membership fee.
Members have the opportunity to participate in training sessions at various intensity levels. Saturday sessions are medium intensity and focus on developing skills and technique. Sunday morning, Tuesday, and Thursday evening sessions offer a medium to high intensity workout for those seeking a challenge or wishing to compete at a more competitive level.
For highly motivated individuals with a passion for dragon boat racing, there is the opportunity to reach State/Australian Representative Level. These paddlers exhibit exceptional skills, discipline, and fitness levels and may have the chance to represent their country at World Championships.
In addition to training, the club offers a Wednesday morning paddling session for those seeking fun, fitness, and friendship. Membership of the Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club is a prerequisite for participation in this session.
All regular training sessions take place at the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania on 1 Ford Parade in Lindisfarne.
