HGYS offers training in five different streams of activities, each running on a weekly basis. These streams include Lion Dance, Taiko Drumming, Dragon Dance, Martial Arts (Hung Gar Kuen and Jujutsu), and Tai Chi. For Lion Dance, HGYS practises the southern Fat San style, incorporating elements from Chinese martial arts as its foundation. Taiko Drumming, on the other hand, combines traditional Chinese drumming techniques with Japanese Taiko styles. The Dragon Dance requires a coordinated team of ten individuals who understand and execute the precise movements necessary for this captivating art form. Martial Arts classes focus on two disciplines: Hung Gar Kuen and Jujutsu.

Lastly, HGYS offers a Tai Chi class that focuses on strengthening through both solo and partnered activities.

The history of HGYS dates back to 1986 when seven friends in Melbourne came together to train in Lion Dance, Hung Gar Kuen, and Jujutsu. Recognising the value of sharing their knowledge, they established the Hung Gar Yau Shu School, which has since expanded to include Taiko performance drumming, Dragon Dance, and Tai Chi. Today, HGYS boasts over 50 active members and continues to attract new enthusiasts every year.
