Long Jump is an Olympic 'Field' event of Athletics. Athletes use a combination of agility, strength and speed to leap horizontally to cover the maximum distance from the take-off point. The athlete has a 40 metre runway to run then jump off one foot into sand. The take-off foot must land behind a specific line on the take-off board in order to be considered a valid jump. A jump where the athlete's foot lands in front of the take-off line is called a 'foul' and does not count towards their result.
