The Meander Valley Suns Football Club is a newly formed sports club located in the Meander Valley Council in Tasmania. The club was established in late 2011 and has since competed in the Leven Football Association in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The club represents the Hagley and Westbury communities, which have been without a representative football team since the late 1990s.
The Meander Valley Suns had a successful start to their new era in the NTFA division 2 competition, with a resounding win over Perth in round 1. Led by midfielder Kalyn Eady, the Suns secured a 125-point victory, with Eady scoring seven goals to outscore Perth's total of 36 points. The match featured eight goalscorers, including Danny Bennett who kicked four goals and coach Josh Bennett who managed three goals. Jono Sturzaker also put in a strong performance for the team.
Josh Bennett, the head coach of the Meander Valley Suns, expressed his satisfaction with the result, despite the team's poor kicking accuracy. He commended the team's high skill level and hoped to maintain it in future matches. Tim Crawford, a new recruit from Perth, was the top goalkicker for his former team.
In addition to their success on the field, the Suns also announced their coaching appointments for the 2014 season. Josh Bennett was appointed as the Senior Coach, while Tim Yole was named the Reserves Coach. The club held a meet the coaches BBQ lunch for old and new players to introduce themselves to the 2014 coaching staff. Pre-season training was set to commence on December 2 at the Westbury Recreation Ground.
