Mods netball club was established in 1965 by the Frank Manford Social Club as Manford Mods. In the early 70s the club officially change its name to Mods netball club. Over the years team numbers grew and in 1974 the club had 6 teams, in the top 6 divisions.
In 1965 the club consisted of one team, wearing a red and grey uniform. The team, coached by Kevin Element, successfully made the ‘D’ Grade grand final, and lost, however the following season the founding team was moved to ‘A’ reserve. 1985 was a highlight for Mods with the A1 team winning its 7th consecutive grand final win, 3 in winter and 4 in summer.
Mods maintained itself as a strong senior club, with 5 to 10 teams playing, with various results through the mid 70s and 80s. 1984 saw the introduction of the first junior teams, with many daughters joining the Mods ranks. Junior teams have formed part of the club on the occasion; however Mods is predominately a senior club. Mods also became a family tradition.
One year saw 9 mothers and daughters playing in the club – unheard of in most sport clubs.
Over the years Mods has had a range of uniforms, from the stunning red and grey uniform, to burgundy and grey culottes worn with black Dunlops, with many years of a variety of skirt and top combinations and now to the newly released uniform in 2014, where we go back to dresses. Tracksuits have also featured in the uniform line from time to time with the first track suit release in 1985, in what could only be described by members at the time as a disastrous experience!
Mods have always been a competitive club, with an excellent social calendar. From the initial days of a windup cabaret to river cruises, dinners, bowling, wine tours, sundowners, quiz nights and most recently casino nights! Since 1965 Mods players successfully celebrated every event in style. Many strong friendships have been developed through the years and the club support from current and past members has always been strong.
