North Rockhampton Athletics Centre is a small not-for-profit club located in Rockhampton, Queensland, run by dedicated volunteers who are parents of the athletes. Established in 1981, it is the 32nd athletics centre in Queensland and is affiliated with LAQ (Little Athletics Queensland). The centre caters to children aged 3 to 17, from Tiny Tots to young adults turning 17 in their last year.
Every Sunday afternoon during the school terms from March to September, the centre hosts its season, culminating in the Regional Championships in September. The motto of Little Athletics is “Family, Fun, and Fitness,” and the centre strives to provide a welcoming environment where athletes can enjoy their time while working towards their personal best each week.
Over the years, the centre has produced a significant number of state, national, and Australian finalists and place-getters. Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian sport that focuses on track and field events specially modified to suit the ages and abilities of children. It offers a wide range of running, jumping, throwing, and walking events.
Approximately 14,500 boys and girls across Queensland participate in Little Athletics each year. The track and field-based competition takes place throughout the summer and winter sports seasons. The events include sprints, distance races, hurdles, walks, relays, jumps (long, triple, high), and throws (shot put, discus, javelin).
The Tiny Tots programme is designed for 3 and 4-year-olds, with activities aimed at developing their gross motor skills. They participate in games and activities that involve running, jumping, throwing, and catching. They may also be involved in short races or modified athletics events.
The centre provides weekly results for the Sunday competitions, which can be viewed on their website. They also have a calendar of events for the year, showcasing the various competitions and activities.
North Rockhampton Athletics Centre proudly displays their committee members, sponsors, and registration information on their website. They have Silver, Bronze, and other sponsors who support their activities and events.
The centre's dedicated volunteers and supportive community contribute to creating a vibrant and inclusive environment where children and young adults can develop their athletic abilities, have fun, and enjoy a sense of family and fitness.
