The Sydney Pistol Club is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. Established in 1953, it is the first pistol club in New South Wales and one of the earliest in Australia. The club has a rich history and has played a significant role in the development of the shooting sports in the country.
Originally, the club's shooting range was situated in a disused rail tunnel near Wynyard Station in the Sydney CBD. However, due to various challenges, including the loss of the allocated area at the Malabar Rifle Range, the club moved to its current location at Cape Banks La Perouse in 1959. This new range was specially built for the club and has been used for numerous State and National Championships, as well as selection competitions for Olympic, Commonwealth, and other International or National events.
Over the past fifty years, the Sydney Pistol Club has produced many accomplished shooters, with both past and present members representing Australia in successful shooting teams. Notably, women have achieved high levels of success at the Olympic level. The club prides itself on being inclusive and welcomes members of all ages and genders.
In addition to being a training venue for target pistol shooters, the Sydney Pistol Club has also provided its facilities to both State and Federal Police Forces. This partnership demonstrates the club's commitment to the responsible and skilled use of firearms.
At present, the Sydney Pistol Club offers three new shooting disciplines for its members, namely Shotgun Trap, (Western) Single Action, and IPSC. These additional disciplines provide exciting opportunities for members to expand their shooting skills and engage in friendly competition.
