Tai Chi for Health is a sports club located in Perth, Western Australia, dedicated to promoting better health through the practise of Tai Chi. The club is led by Dr. J H Bay, a personal testimony of the positive effects that Tai Chi has had on his health.
Dr. Bay recalls his own experience as a sickly child in the 1960s, visiting the doctor regularly. However, after just three months of practising Tai Chi under the instruction of Master Lee Bar Chwee at Sin Kwang Tai Chi Athletic Association in Singapore, Dr. Bay no longer needed to see the doctor regularly.
Within six months, his strength had greatly improved, allowing him to take up active sports such as cross country races and soccer. This transformation in his health has made Dr. Bay grateful for the opportunity to learn and practise Tai Chi.
Originally developed to improve the health of monks who sat for long periods, Tai Chi combines gentle movements to activate vital energies and balance Yin and Yang forces within the body. As a result, toxins are removed, organs rejuvenated, and the effects of ageing are slowed down. The health benefits of Tai Chi have been observed in both Eastern and Western medicine, including improved blood circulation, pain relief, arthritis and rheumatism management, lower blood pressure, stress reduction, decreased risk of heart attack, and faster recovery from illness.
One of the great advantages of Tai Chi over other sports and exercises is that it is less physically demanding, making it suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Beginners will find Tai Chi less strenuous than learning Yoga movements. Although the movements are soft and slow, when practised correctly with proper instructions, one will perspire, gain bodily energy, and experience mental alertness after each session.
Dr. Bay's passion for Tai Chi led him to assist Master Lee in teaching Tai Chi in Singapore and serve as a committee member of the Sin Kwang Athletic Association. With plans to settle down with his family in Western Australia, Master Lee encouraged Dr. Bay to continue teaching Tai Chi as a means of improving the health of people in the community.
Dr. Bay now offers courses as part of community recreation in Hamersley and Joondalup, providing an opportunity for the people of Western Australia to experience the health benefits of Tai Chi.
