The club was formed in 1961 with its first season in the IDCA being 1961/62 initially under the name Wollongong University College Cricket Club. The club plays in the Illawarra District Cricket Association (IDCA).
The club plays in the Illawarra District Cricket Association (IDCA) with teams entered in all grades of the competition, 1st to 4th grade. Multiple teams are entered in the 4th grade competition. Home ground for 1st and 2nd grade is University Oval 1 with 3rd and 4th grade sharing University Oval 3, both wicket are turf. 3rd and 4th grade playing surfaces are a combination of turf and synthetic wickets.
University Cricket Club offers 4th grade players the only opportunity to play on a turf wicket. Training facilities are located adjacent to University Oval 3.
