The West Australian Pistol Association – Cockburn Fremantle (CFPC) is a sports club located in the City of Cockburn. The club offers pistol shooting as a sport and is open to individuals of any gender, starting from the age of 12. With many members competing at top levels both at the state and national level after retirement, pistol shooting is considered a lifetime sport that provides personal satisfaction and challenges within various disciplines.
Pistol shooting is a recognised Olympic and Commonwealth Games sport, and CFPC is proud to provide a welcoming environment for new members. They offer safety training, competition regulations, and specific coaching to support members in their pistol shooting journey. The club also boasts comfortable facilities and continuously upgrades their ranges to meet national competition standards.
Established in 1958 and located on Warton Road since 1980, CFPC has a rich history in the community. The club is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation and the City of Cockburn Council through approved grants for continual improvements.
New members are welcome to visit CFPC every Wednesday at 6:15pm, but email bookings are required. The club provides an introduction, safety training, and a supervised air pistol shoot in the indoor range with an endorsed Pistol Australia Club Instructor for a fee of $20. CFPC currently has 180 members and membership can be obtained by completing an application form, providing a National Police Clearance, and submitting a passport photo. Applications are reviewed by the Committee of Management.
Safety is a top priority at CFPC, and like all sports, pistol shooting has strict rules and regulations. New members are supervised and instructed by qualified club instructors who teach safety, club rules, range rules, and shooting instruction. Firearms and ammunition are not stored on the premises. To apply for a “club use only” West Australian Firearms Licence, members must be a financial member of an approved pistol club, complete six months of training at an approved club, pass the Police Firearms Awareness Test, and provide necessary support documents.
CFPC aims to develop the skills needed to compete at club and interclub events. They offer quality coaching and support through various levels of pistol shooting, ensuring members can handle and shoot guns in a safe and controlled environment. The club's mission is to support and develop talented junior members, providing them with opportunities to represent their club, association, and country at the Olympics.
Choosing CFPC means joining an approved Pistol Club affiliated with the West Australian Pistol Association and Pistol Australia. These affiliations ensure that pistol shooting maintains a safe, accessible, and regulated structure. CFPC strongly encourages the development of junior members and provides a nurturing environment for them to excel in the sport.
