Western Districts Angling & Game Fishing Club, located in Adelaide, South Australia, is a fantastic sports club that provides endless fun and adventure for all fishing enthusiasts. Established in 1938 by a group of passionate anglers residing in the western suburbs of Adelaide, the club has grown into a family angling club with a strong focus on improving angling skills while ensuring a good time is had by all.
The club holds regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the Western Youth Centre on Marion Road in Cowandilla, South Australia. These gatherings are much more than just meetings; they are social get-togethers where members discuss their previous and upcoming fishing trips, share valuable tips, tricks, and experiences, and simply enjoy talking about their shared passion for fishing.
Western Districts Angling Club is known for organising exciting and memorable club trips throughout the year. Some upcoming trips for 2023 and 2024 include the AAA Freshwater Championships in Barmera/Cobdogla, the Copper Coast Social Fishing event, and the Goolwa Beach to the Bluff trip. More information regarding these trips can be found on the club's Facebook page.
In addition to offering thrilling fishing outings, the club also values the environment and actively works towards its preservation. During a recent two-day October outing, the club made a significant contribution to the environment by reducing the carp population in Lake Bonney by half a tonne. The first day of the outing featured a light line competition where participants were required to land their fish unassisted using a line with a maximum breaking strain of 2. 5 kg.
The best junior angler, Ronan, caught an impressive carp during this competition. The second day involved a more traditional competition, with Chris emerging as the overall winner with a bag weighing 64 kg, and Barry catching the largest carp weighing 4. 75 kg.
