ASKA Shotokan Karate is a sports school and gym located in Labrador, Queensland. Founded by Alan Bainbridge, the academy aims to provide individuals from all walks of life with the opportunity to learn Shotokan Karate skills and values at a nominal cost. With over five decades of experience in Karate, Alan Bainbridge is an esteemed 8th Dan Black Belt Chief Instructor and has been inducted into the World and Australian Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
One of the main advantages of choosing ASKA Shotokan Karate is the free membership offered to all students. Additionally, the academy offers weekly payments with family discounts, ensuring that learning karate is accessible to everyone. The instructors at ASKA Shotokan Karate are highly skilled, ranging from 1st to 6th Dan Black Belt, and hold Queensland Blue Card Accreditation as well as First Aid qualifications.
At ASKA Shotokan Karate, there are no joining fees, contracts, or monthly fees. The academy also provides full insurance coverage for the safety and security of its members. With two dojos located at Labrador and Reedy Creek, participants have convenient access to training facilities.
ASKA Shotokan Karate offers special “Little Kickers” classes designed for children aged 3 to 9 or 10 years old. In addition, the academy provides junior and adult class times to cater to various age groups and skill levels.
The academy prides itself on organising authentic Shotokan competitions with qualified referees and judges. This ensures that participants can engage in competitive events that adhere to the highest standards of karate.
Beyond karate training, ASKA Shotokan Karate is committed to giving back to the community. Alan Bainbridge and the academy sponsor five children in Africa every month through World Vision, Plan 13, and Queensland Cancer Research Council. The academy has also raised funds for numerous charities, including the children's hospital, tsunami relief, guide dogs for the blind, breast cancer foundations, and cancer research organisations.
Members of ASKA Shotokan Karate and their families are well taken care of throughout the year. Alan Bainbridge generously provides means and transportation for attending competitions at no cost to anyone. The academy also organises free training sessions in the park and beach for all students. During the Christmas season, the academy holds a special presentation night and party to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of its students.
In addition to karate training, Alan Bainbridge offers free seminars to the neighbourhood watch, free self-defence lessons for late-night workers at local hotels, and free seminars for judging, referees, and table officials. His commitment to volunteering and helping others has earned him recognition and nominations from various associations in England and Australia.
