About

Auchterarder Gymnastics Club is a reputable gymnastics academy located in Auchterarder, New Zealand. Situated in the Auchterarder Community School, the club offers gymnastics programmes for individuals at all levels, welcoming gymnasts from all over Central Scotland.

The primary goal of Auchterarder Gymnastics Club is to provide a facility and opportunities for children and young adults in Perthshire to participate, perform, and enjoy the sport of gymnastics. The club actively promotes fitness and health for the mind and body through a range of classes and activities suitable for all ages and abilities. Additionally, the club offers coach education and development within the Scottish and British Gymnastics Programmes.

Established in 1987, Auchterarder Gymnastics Club began with only 25 gymnasts. Today, the club has grown significantly, with over 400 children and young adults attending classes throughout the week. The club prides itself on providing a training facility for gymnasts to reach national levels, and it is proud to have several girls and boys selected to represent Scotland.

Auchterarder Gymnastics Club offers its gymnasts the opportunity to progress through the 'Club Award Scheme,' which rewards their achievements with certificates presented throughout the year. Additionally, the club holds an Annual Club Awards and Championships event, where all gymnasts are eligible to participate. The club encourages gymnasts to take part in school, local, regional, and national competitions based on their age and ability.

In addition to training and competitions, Auchterarder Gymnastics Club has a display team that performs at the Scottish Gym Festivals in Irvine, Perth, and Scottish Schools each year. The club also organises a Club Display every two years, where all gymnasts have the chance to showcase their skills.

One notable feature of Auchterarder Gym Club is its commitment to keeping gymnasts engaged in the sport during their teenage years. Statistics show that many girls do not continue in sports during their teenage years, but Auchterarder Gym Club has a history of retaining gymnasts until they leave school or go on to university. Furthermore, many of the club's older gymnasts take on coaching and judging roles, helping to train and guide the younger gymnasts.

The club is managed by a dedicated Board made up of staff and parent volunteers. Key members of the club include Head Coach Fiona Cameron, Administrator Hilary Calderwood, Chairman Marie Gardner, Treasurer Nikki Lessells, and Child Protection Coordinators Jill Higgins and Liz Heggie.

All coaches at Auchterarder Gymnastics Club are registered with Scottish and British Gymnastics, have completed Disclosure Scotland checks, and attend necessary Child Protection Courses. The club has a dedicated team of coaches, including Head Coach Fiona Cameron and several Level 1 and 2 coaches.

In addition to its regular gymnastics programmes, Auchterarder Gymnastics Club offers a brilliant group for pre-school children to get involved in gymnastics at an early age. The club welcomes children from 18 months onwards up to school age, encouraging safe exploration of the gym apparatus under the supervision of coaches. Parents must supervise their little gymnasts at all times during the sessions, which occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays at various times.
