In their efforts to keep members informed, Banbury Cross Sailing Club publishes a quarterly newsletter in addition to their website and weekly 'Reservoir Dogs' updates. The newsletter includes updates on developments and issues arising at the club. Recent highlights include Trevor Whiting obtaining his RYA Senior Instructor qualification and Rob Kerry becoming a certified RYA dinghy instructor.
Over the summer, the club's instructors and volunteer members have been busy providing taster sessions to local scouts and guides. The open day in May was also a success, although there were only six new trainees who completed RYA Level 1 and 2 courses. The club congratulates Andre, Francois, Luke, John, Jim, and Callum on their achievements and hopes they will become regular members. They also extend a warm welcome to Alex, a new sailing member.
Banbury Cross Sailing Club allows the Banbury sea cadets to use the reservoir on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. The sea cadets have recently acquired a large Quest dinghy and two Zest dinghies, and the club is currently exploring the possibility of club members using these boats, subject to insurance approval.
The club's finances are in good shape, thanks in part to a 4,500 donation from Banbury Charities secured by Trevor Buzzard. The donation will go toward purchasing a new safety boat, which will be better equipped with a wheel and console. This new addition will not only enhance safety measures but also provide the opportunity to offer RYA Level 2 Powerboat courses to the public, generating additional income for the club. Club members will also have the chance to experience the new safety boat.
Starting in September, there will be a new signing-in book that members are expected to complete every time they go out on the water, in addition to signing out club boats. This is an essential requirement to ensure the safety of members. Additionally, the club kindly requests that members make an extra effort to clean up and tidy the club facilities, particularly the kitchen, to maintain its cleanliness.
Banbury Cross Sailing Club welcomes any ideas or suggestions from members or prospective members and encourages them to share their thoughts for the continued improvement of the club.
