Meon Valley Bowling Club, located in Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire, invites individuals who are keen on learning the popular sport of lawn bowls to join their beginners course. Led by three qualified and active coaches – Jennie and John Gray (EBCS level 2) and Chris Robinson (BDA level 2), this course covers all the essentials of lawn bowls, ensuring that participants acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently become part of a bowls club.
Enrollment for this course typically takes place during the club's annual open day, which falls on the third Saturday in April. Spanning across 4 sessions, scheduled on selected Monday and/or Wednesday evenings, the cost of this course is just £25. On top of that, participants will receive a copy of the laws of the sport and suggested practice routines. To promote good sportsmanship, the course curriculum also places strong emphasis on etiquette, highlighting the significance of fair play.
Should participants wish to invest in their own bowls, equipment, or clothing, Meon Valley Bowling Club provides expert advice in these areas and keeps an updated list of bowls available for sale. Moreover, club members have the opportunity to benefit from coaching sessions throughout the outdoor season. These sessions are conducted on Monday afternoons at 4pm and Wednesday mornings at 10.45am, with a focus on individual improvement in aspects such as delivery, line control, and mastering various types of shots. Additionally, the club offers specialised sessions to help players adapt to playing on the long mats, preparing them for the indoor season. During these coaching sessions, participants will have access to a variety of bowls and aids to enhance their learning experience.
To acquire more information about the beginners course, coaching sessions, or to sign up, interested individuals are encouraged to get in touch with Chris Robinson, who will be happy to assist them in joining the Meon Valley Bowling Club.
