Blue Dragon Tai Chi is a prominent Tai Chi school located in Narrabeen, Sydney's Northern Beaches. They offer regular classes and events for students of all levels who are interested in exploring the ancient art of Tai Chi.
The school specialises in teaching the Hsing-i and Ba Gua systems of Tai Chi, in addition to traditional Tai Chi forms. Hsing-i Chuan, also known as “Mind Boxing,” focuses on co-ordinating mind and body into a unified unit, making it a highly effective form of martial art. The style includes 5 Fist Forms, 12 Animal Forms, and 5 Weapons Forms, representing the elements of Chinese Medicine and providing a comprehensive approach to Tai Chi practise.
Ba Gua Zhang, meaning Eight Diagram Palm, is another system taught at Blue Dragon Tai Chi. It is based on the philosophy of the I Ching (The Book of Changes) and encourages practitioners to embrace and adapt to the constant changes in the universe. All forms in this system are performed by walking the circle, reflecting the circular nature of life and the universe.
The Cheng Ming system, taught by Grand Master Wang Fu Lai, is an integral part of Blue Dragon Tai Chi. This system has been taught worldwide, including in countries such as Israel, Japan, America, Australia, and New Zealand. The system incorporates elements of Hsing-i and Ba Gua into the Orthodox Tai Chi Form, a 99-movement form combining the principles from the five main Tai Chi styles. It was developed by Legendary Great Grand Master Wang Su Chin in 1929 in Nanjing.
The school offers regular classes held at the Narrabeen Tramshed Community Centre on Thursday evenings. The classes cater to both beginners and advanced students. The Tai Chi class runs from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, followed by an advanced class from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The ongoing classes have a monthly cost of $75 for one class per week or $150 for two classes per week.
Additionally, Blue Dragon Tai Chi organises a Sunday practise in the park at Boondah Reserve from 8:30 am.
Blue Dragon Tai Chi also organises various events, including seminars and workshops. One notable event is a 3-day seminar in Melbourne on September 23rd to 25th, featuring Master Wang Fu Lai and Master Huang Su Chun. This seminar welcomes participants of all levels and provides an excellent opportunity to learn from esteemed masters.
