Brooyar rock climbing area

Located just 20 minutes northwest of Gympie, in Queensland's Sunshine Coast region, is the Brooyar rock climbing area, also known as Brooyar Crags. After approximately 2. 85 km, climbers will need to take a left turn onto Petersen Road, which turns into a dirt road after about 1. 6 km.

From there, climbers will follow the meandering path to the crags and campsite. While the side roads may lead to uncharted territories, following the main road will eventually lead climbers to the right destination.

For those looking to stay overnight, camping at Glastonbury Creek is available for $6. 55/night. However, it is important to note that the previous “pay and display” system is no longer available. Instead, climbers must book their camping spot online through the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service (QNPWS) website.

Brooyar holds cultural value to the First Nations people of the area, particularly the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi people. The rock shelter at Brooyar was historically used as a seasonal hunting location, and it contains significant cultural features such as archaeological sites with stone artefacts, charcoal, and bone fragments.
