Amy would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you from Cambridge University Taekwondo (CUTKD)! Having established the club in 1990, CUTKD remains a student-run group affiliated with Cambridge University and proudly registered with British Taekwondo. Importantly, Amy and the team welcome anyone over the age of 18 to join.
Taekwondo, a kick-focused martial art from South Korea, includes two main disciplines: kyorugi (sparring) and poomsae (patterns). At CUTKD, sessions cover basics to advanced fighting and poomsae techniques, with a dedicated weekly session for ITF style fighting.
Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned black belt, CUTKD caters to all levels of experience. Even if your background is in a different style of taekwondo, you’re welcome to continue your training here. Beginners will be taught the WT syllabus, with colour belt gradings by the head coach at the end of each term. Dan gradings, however, need to be completed at larger clubs.
Throughout the year, CUTKD participates in various competitions, including the BUCS National Student Championships and the Varsity competition against Oxf*rd's team during Lent Term.
Joining CUTKD offers more than just improved fitness, flexibility, and self-defence skills. You'll also have the chance to make friends and socialise at many events and socials that take place throughout the year.
It's worth noting that the Sunday sessions are for individuals with at least a yellow belt and require your own groyne guard and white/clear gum shield. For any questions, feel free to reach out via the Contact Us box on the website or the Facebook page.
Classes are held at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre, Philippa Fawcett Dr, Cambridge, CB3 0AS. The centre provides showers, lockers, and a café. There’s ample parking for cars and bikes, so please arrive at least 5 minutes before the class starts.
Come and kickstart your Taekwondo journey with CUTKD! For more details, visit the FAQ page, follow @cambridge_university_taekwondo on Instagram, and subscribe to the iCal for updates on training, competitions, and socials.
