The discovery of Churchmans Brook cliffs in December 1975 by 'Mac' McArthur was a significant milestone in the development of rock climbing in Western Australia. Prior to this discovery, the only climbing areas in the metropolitan region were quarries and a few small cliffs in the Wungong Dam area. Mac, along with a group of climbers, explored the cliffs and established some early routes, laying the foundation for the crag's climbing history.
Legend has it that local bushranger Moondyne Joe had a hideout in the cave near the descent gully of Churchmans Brook. The rich history of the area adds to the allure of climbing at this crag.
