Coast Swim Club, also known as the #MightyMarlinz, is one of the best competitive swimming clubs in New Zealand. Founded in 1987, the club is now based at Northern Arena, a state-of-the-art swimming complex in Silverdale, Auckland.
Coast Swim Club offers a modern pool for its swimmers to train in, along with award-winning professional coaches. The club caters to swimmers of all ages and abilities, providing a supportive and dedicated environment for them to pursue their swimming goals.
The training schedule at Coast Swim Club is designed to challenge and develop swimmers at all levels. Top swimmers train 5–6 mornings per week and 2–4 afternoons, while younger and newer swimmers start with 3–6 sessions per week.
The club's swimmers have consistently achieved notable results at various competitions, including the Auckland Championships, Auckland Regional meets, and National competitions. In 2023, Coast Swim Club was crowned the winners of the Apollo Projects New Zealand Championships, as well as the Apollo Projects New Zealand Short Course Championships. They also achieved the most GOLD medals at the Apollo Projects New Zealand Age Group Championships, and finished second overall.
Coast Swim Club has produced several notable athletes who have qualified for international competitions such as the World Championships, World Junior Championships, and Youth Commonwealth Games. Among these qualifiers are swimmers like Chelsea Edwards, Helena Gasson, Cameron Grey, and Eve Thomas, who have been coached by Michael Weston.
Head Coach Michael Weston has played a pivotal role in the success of Coast Swim Club. Under his leadership, the club has transformed from a top-10 performing club to New Zealand's number one swimming club. Weston himself has served as the Head Coach of the New Zealand team at the World Short Course Championships and been a part of the coaching staff for the World Championship team in Budapest, Hungary. He is set to be part of the 2023 World Championship team in Fukuoka, Japan.
Coast Swim Club reached a major milestone in 2022 when they won their first National Championship at a Senior level. They defended this championship title in 2023, solidifying their position as one of the top swimming clubs in the country. Weston's coaching philosophy revolves around building strong individual and team foundations, allowing for both organic and precise athletic growth.
The club's coaching team also includes Junior Squad Coach Teegan Farr, an experienced ex-competitive swimmer who has represented Coast Swim Club and North wave over a 12-year career. Teegan's passion for swimming, combined with his expertise in swim teaching, makes him a trusted coach for the club's pre-club and race-focused squads.
