Coleen Man Dance Academy has long been a cherished part-time dance school in Orpington, UK. Known for its specialisation in Ballet, Tap, and Street Dance, the academy is focused on teaching dance techniques, boosting confidence, and helping students express themselves through movement. The academy places great importance on cultivating each student's passion for dance, ensuring that learning is both productive and fun.
Classes are held across various locations in Orpington, including Chelsfield, Green Street Green, and Badgers Mount, making it convenient for students and parents alike. As a small and friendly institution, the principal, Coleen Man, takes pride in personally knowing each student and understanding their individual needs. Her goal is to help every student achieve their full potential and become the best dancer they can be.
Coleen Man began her own dance journey at the age of four, initially focusing on Tap and Jazz, and adding Ballet to her repertoire at six. Her professional career spans performances in trade shows for notable companies such as Volkswagen and Motorola, pantomimes, music videos, and the UK tour of the West End production of "King and I."
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Coleen started by assisting with Saturday morning classes, driven by her love for dance. She has worked with various organisations, including local councils and Theatre Arts Schools, before taking over the Ruth McInnes Dancing School in 2003 and rebranding it as Coleen Man Dance Academy in 2008. That same year, she became a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance.
Today, Coleen teaches ballet and commercial Street Dance at her academy and with other Theatre Arts companies in the area. She also collaborates on many local projects with groups like the Orpington Repertory Company and Pratts Bottom Amateur Dramatics, as well as primary schools in the community. Beyond her dance academy, Coleen is a Modern Jive champion, an aerobics instructor, and an enthusiast of various dance styles like Salsa, Zouk, and Contemporary. In 2010, she developed a keen interest in West Coast Swing, achieving acclaim as an Allstar Division competitor and running her own West Coast Swing school, Swing Academy UK.
The academy also benefits from the expertise of Marilyn Moore, a dedicated tap teacher who started ballet at the age of two at the Searles Stage School in Croydon. Marilyn's lifelong passion and qualifications in dance enrich the academy, ensuring students receive top-notch tap instruction.
With a committed team of instructors and a focus on quality education, Coleen Man Dance Academy remains a top choice for those looking to learn ballet, tap, or street dance in Orpington. The academy's personalised approach and emphasis on confidence-building create a supportive environment where students can thrive and achieve their dance ambitions.
