Cool Cats Rock 'n' Roll – QLD is a retro dance studio located in Woombye, Queensland. With a focus on teaching people of all ages how to dance in a fun, positive, and supportive environment, Cool Cats is the go-to place for those looking to learn and enjoy retro dance styles such as Swing, Rockabilly, Rock 'n' Roll, and Blues.
The dance school takes pride in conducting lessons in small groups, allowing for personalised attention and creating a space conducive to learning. Cool Cats is dedicated to helping dancers of all proficiency levels “Take the Next Step” in their dance journey, recognising that this step may mean different things to different dancers. Whether it's building confidence in the first figures learned, having more fun on the dance floor, or delving into the examination of dance mechanisms and technique, Cool Cats is committed to helping dancers achieve the most out of their dancing.
With the aim of keeping retro dance styles vibrant, Cool Cats strives to provide students with a solid foundation in the major dance styles, while also acknowledging the existence of less common variants and specific stylings. While respecting the fundamental forms of each dance style, Cool Cats remains open to improved methods and techniques that arise with continued dance development and understanding. The school's approach is also flexible to accommodate the needs of different students, whether it be due to injury, prior training, or learning difficulties.
Cool Cats instructors are highly qualified through the Australian Rock 'n' Roll Dancesport Council (ARRDC). With their knowledge and experience, students can rest assured that they will receive expert teaching. The school also encourages class assistants to pursue dance theory, familiarise themselves with both lead and follow roles, and seek formal qualifications through the ARRDC. Instructors and class assistants alike are consistently learning, exploring new dance styles, and exchanging skills and ideas with other professionals in order to enhance their own dancing and provide the best for their students.
One of the key figures at Cool Cats is Nathan Major, the Principal. Nathan has been dancing since 1996 and turned professional in 2002. He holds a Licentiate qualification from the ARRDC and is skilled in various dance styles, including aerials (lift-work). Nathan has successfully competed at State and National level competitions and now regularly adjudicates at national events.
However, his greatest source of pride comes from the competition efforts and achievements of the students he has helped coach. A lifelong advocate for Swing, Rockabilly, Rock 'n' Roll, and Blues, Nathan continues to develop his skills, qualifications, and passion in order to promote and inspire better dancing, encouraging more dancers to “Take the Next Step.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer, Cool Cats Rock 'n' Roll – QLD welcomes you to join their dance school and embark on a retro dance journey like no other. Connect with them on Facebook and experience the joy and camaraderie of dancing in a supportive community.
