Jeremy Janny would like to share some exciting news with the sports community. Coromandel BJJ, the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in the Coromandel region, has branched out from its original Whangamata location and is now holding classes in Tairua as well. Jeremy’s goal is simple: to offer martial arts classes that are welcoming to all ages and skill levels—from beginners right through to black belts.
For those unfamiliar, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art focused on grappling and ground fighting. It's designed to help practitioners control and submit their opponents. The techniques often involve taking opponents to the ground, where controlling them becomes easier.
Jeremy Janny, the head instructor at Coromandel BJJ, brings a wealth of experience and achievements to the mat. He holds black belts in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo (2Dan), sports science degree, and a remarkable competition history. Jeremy was the top Black Belt athlete in New Zealand for the 2019/2020 season and has numerous championships under his belt, including the New Zealand National and Auckland Open Championships.
Coromandel BJJ offers classes for both kids and adults. The kids' classes, suitable for ages 5 to 13, focus on building confidence, teaching self-defence, and fostering discipline. The adults' classes are open to anyone aged 13 and over, providing a great opportunity to improve fitness, mental health, confidence, and self-defence skills.
If you're curious about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Coromandel BJJ offers a free trial class, which can be booked online. Classes are held at the War Memorial Hall Little Theatre in both Whangamata and Tairua.
