AAM Learning Centre, the Chess club in Gordon, is excited to announce the launch of the Debating Wallabies program. It provides a fantastic platform for beginner students to delve into the captivating realm of debating. This unique skill not only helps students develop robust arguments but also teaches them how to think quickly on their feet and effectively refute others' points.
During this program, participants will be introduced to several fundamental skills and principles of debating. They will have the opportunity to put what they have learned into practice through in-class debates. Debating Wallabies ensures that students understand the key concepts of value debating, including cases, arguments, and rebuttals, while focusing on different aspects each term.
In term #1, Debating Wallabies will concentrate on Value Cases. This entails teaching students how to work as a team to best persuade their adjudicator. Alongside the essential debating skills of argumentation, rebuttal, and persuasive speaking, participants will receive in-depth instruction on terms, criteria, and burdens. Armed with this knowledge, they will learn how to effectively link their points with what they need to prove as a team in order to win debates. Practice debates and speaking activities, with personalised feedback, will help students put these concepts into action during the program.
Debating Wallabies is an ideal program for students of all personality types. Whether they are shy or outgoing, this program provides a welcoming environment to begin their journey into the exciting world of debating. Term #1 will run from early February to mid-April, providing ample time for students to hone their skills.
