Paul, the organiser of the Dunbar Coastal Rowing Club, wants to share some updates with the sports community. Since its founding in 2010, the club has been focused on teaching traditional rowing skills, not just to the people of Dunbar but also to nearby communities. As a not-for-profit community group, the club’s mission is to promote and revive coastal rowing, traditional boat building, and skiff racing along the Scottish coastline and inland lochs.
The club is linked with the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association, which shares similar goals of reviving traditional rowing and boat building. The club frequently holds rowing sessions throughout the year from Victoria Harbour in Dunbar.
Paul is proud that the club has built two St Ayles skiffs, The Volunteer and Black Agnes, with the help of its members. These skiffs are key to the regular rowing sessions. The club also takes part in various regattas and events all year round, and even organises its own annual summer event in Dunbar.
Membership at Dunbar Coastal Rowing Club is open to everyone over the age of 16, regardless of rowing experience. There’s no upper age limit, so everyone can join in. Children under 16 can also participate if they have a family membership with a parent.
In addition to competitive rowing, the club hosts several cruising and social rowing events, like the annual row and picnic up the river Tweed, offering members a chance to enjoy the scenic surroundings while rowing.
If anyone is keen to join Dunbar Coastal Rowing Club or simply wants to learn more, they should check out the club’s website or follow them on social media. Paul encourages everyone to stay updated with the latest news and see how the members continue to enjoy their passion for coastal rowing.
