Geoff would like to share some news about Duston Old Cranks, a cycling club based in Northampton, UK. The club came into existence on the 22nd of May 2017 when three keen cyclists – Geoff, Martin, and John – went for a bike ride after work. They enjoyed it so much they decided to make it a weekly thing and began inviting others along. As their group grew to seven regular cyclists, they cheekily named themselves the "Old Cranks."
The club meets mainly at the Berrywood Road roundabout, gathering most Wednesday evenings during the spring and summer to take advantage of the longer days. They also organise longer rides on Saturdays and Sundays, and at least one multi-day ride each year. On the Wednesday closest to their anniversary, they hold a special ride that ends at the Melbourne Arms – their unofficial clubhouse.
Geoff takes on most of the organisational duties, although other members chip in to keep things running smoothly. While they are serious about their cycling, the Duston Old Cranks maintain a laid-back vibe, making sure not to take themselves too seriously. They’re always open to new members, no fees or paperwork required. Newcomers are usually invited to join a few rides before a vote is held to decide on their membership.
To keep everyone in the loop, Geoff ensures Duston Old Cranks has an active presence on social media, particularly Instagram. Regular updates and engaging posts help to build a sense of community and encourage others to join in their cycling adventures.
