At Fushin Ryu Karate Dojo in Browns Bay, Auckland, Sensei Len Monk leads the charge with a passion for sharing the art and sport of karate. Karate, evolving from “Okinawa-te,” has a rich history rooted in self-defence and perfected over time by incorporating techniques from Chinese martial arts.
Sensei Monk’s expertise dates back to 1972, and he established this dojo in 1977, creating a hub for students to train under high standards set by Karate NZ and recognised by Sport NZ and the International Olympic Committee. He’s not only a seasoned instructor but also a key figure in New Zealand’s karate scene, having served on the Executive board of Karate NZ for 25 years, including roles as National President, coach, and selector.
Fushin Ryu Karate’s lineage is strong, tracing back to Yokohama, Japan, where the International Headquarters is guided by Sensei Sugihara Kenji, the grandson of founder Master Sugihara Kenpu.
