Welcome to the Gladstone Radio Controlled Yacht Club (GRCYC), located in Callemondah, Gladstone, Australia. We are proud to be the hosts of the International One Metre Class World Championships, which will be held in Gladstone, Queensland, in October 2024. This prestigious event is organised by the International One Metre International Class Association (IOMICA) and hosted by the Australian Radio Yachting Association (ARYA).
The GRCYC is a cherished legacy created by our dedicated members, both past and present. Every Sunday, with the kind permission of the Gladstone Ports Corporation, we gather to sail our radio-controlled yachts on the right-hand side of the Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) building, located on the commercial jetty in the Gladstone Marina. From this vantage point, sailors and spectators are treated to breathtaking views of the International One Metre class of yachts racing against the stunning backdrop of Gladstone.
While our racing events are fast-paced and competitive, the club places great emphasis on sportsmanship and fair play, which have been integral to our ethos since our rebirth in 2005. We foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for members of all skill levels, whether you are an experienced sailor or new to the sport. If you are interested in trying your hand at radio-controlled yacht racing, we offer a complimentary club boat for newcomers to experience this exhilarating and challenging sport. Simply approach our members on site for further details.
The GRCYC has a rich history of success in national and international competitions. We are delighted to have produced talented sailors, such as Wallis, who recently emerged victorious at the International One Metre Class World Championships. Our Commodore, who hails from Gladstone, also shares the podium in various championships, showcasing the skill and dedication of our members. We are proud to have received endorsement from the ARYA for Gladstone's bid to host the IOM World Championship, solidifying Australia's position as a force to be reckoned with in radio-controlled yacht racing.
Aside from our competitive events, the GRCYC is committed to fostering the love of sailing and the sport of radio-controlled yachting. We regularly organise club races and provide a platform for enthusiasts to engage with like-minded individuals and foster their passion for these exhilarating water-based activities.
At the GRCYC, we acknowledge and respect the significance of the land and waters on which we sail. The area surrounding Gladstone, known as Koongo, has been home to the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, and Taribelang Bunda nations since ancient times. We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners and custodians of this land and water.
If you would like to get in touch with us or learn more about our club, please feel free to contact us via email at secretary@rcyachts. Com. au. We are located near the VMR in Gladstone Marina, Callemondah, Central Queensland.
We look forward to welcoming new members and spectators to join us in celebrating the joy of radio-controlled yachting.
