Gosforth Chess Club, a local Chess club in Newcastle upon Tyne, is thrilled to announce their upcoming ladder competition. This competition is designed specifically for new players who are looking to gain official ECF ratings. It's a fantastic chance for players of all skill levels to challenge themselves and make their way up the ladder.
Participation in the competition is open to club members who have joined the ECF and have a rating of 1600 or less. The ladder positions are determined randomly, with new joiners being added to the bottom. Players have the opportunity to challenge opponents who are one, two, or three places above them on the ladder.
Games will be played following the normal NCA league rules, with each player keeping a record. The pace will be set at 75 minutes with a 10-second increment. After a ladder game, certain restrictions apply. If the lower-ranked player wins, they will replace the higher-ranked player, resulting in a shift in rankings. However, if the higher-ranked player wins or the game ends in a draw, the rankings will remain the same. Additionally, after a ladder game, players must each play against someone else before they can compete against each other again.
Excitingly, the ladder competition will run until August 31st, and the winner will be the player who is sitting on top of the ladder on that date. To keep everyone informed about the current standings, the club will display the ladder rankings at Gosforth Chess Club every Monday night.
If this event has piqued your interest, we encourage you to join the ECF and make sure your rating is within the 1600 limit. All you need to do is send your contact details and a photo to the Ladder organiser, and they will gladly add you to the ladder.
Don't pass up this incredible opportunity to earn a standard English Chess Rating and compete for the glorious title of ladder champion!
