Greenways Stables

Welcome to Greenways Stables, a top horse riding school located in Godalming, New Zealand. Owned and operated by Sally and Ian since May 2014, Greenways Stables offers quality and qualified riding instruction and hacking experiences.

Greenways Stables is home to 9 horses and ponies that work in the riding school. These gentle and well-trained equines range in size from 13. 2hh to 17. 2hh, catering to riders of all ages and abilities.

The stables boast an all-weather, floodlit rubber and sand surfaced 20 × 40m arena, ensuring that lessons can be conducted in any weather condition. Additionally, the stables are conveniently situated alongside a public footpath, allowing for easy access to excellent hacking routes. On-site parking is available, and the stables are just a minute away from the A3, providing easy accessibility for riders from London, Guildford, Portsmouth, and other areas along the A3/M25/M23 corridor.

All lessons at Greenways Stables are taught by qualified and experienced staff. The instructors are dedicated to providing top-notch instruction that caters to the individual needs of each rider. For those venturing out on hacks, experienced riders who hold up-to-date First Aid and Road Safety qualifications will accompany them. The instructors at Greenways Stables also undergo regular professional development courses through the British Horse Society (BHS) and Pony Club, ensuring that their skills and knowledge are always up-to-date.

Additionally, all instructors have the necessary Safeguarding certificates to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all riders.

Greenways Stables welcomes riders of all ages and experience levels. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, the stables can cater to your needs. If you are a beginner, Greenways Stables offers first lessons that provide a solid foundation in horse riding. For experienced riders, the stables offer exhilarating hacks in the stunning Surrey countryside, including areas such as Shackleford.

Greenways Stables prides itself on being a small and friendly team. The stables are supported by a group of fantastic volunteers who assist in various aspects of the operation. The team's commitment to excellence is evident by the 5-star rating they recently received during a licence inspection by the Guildford Borough Council.

Sally and Ian, the proprietors of Greenways Stables, bring a wealth of experience and passion to the stable. Ian has worked in the horse industry for over 20 years as a groom and instructor. He has expertise in various disciplines, including showjumping, hunting, eventing, and dressage. Ian teaches most of the lessons and escorts many of the hacks.

Sally has over 20 years of experience in the equine industry, having previously worked as an Equine Nurse at the renowned Liphook Equine Hospital. She also has a background in education, having worked in primary and secondary schools. Sally's dedication to equine care and her training as a Training and Assessment Consultant add value to the stable. She is passionate about rescuing horses and is often seen with Marmite, her hand-reared foal whom she has cared for since he was 24 hours old.

Please note that due to the limited number of horses and riders, Greenways Stables is currently unable to take on any new clients. However, interested individuals can register on the waiting list through the provided form on our website. All new clients are required to book a 1-2-1 Introductory/Assessment lesson, which is a 30-minute private lesson. This allows the instructors to assess the riding ability of new clients, match them with suitable horses or ponies, and discuss their specific requirements and goals.

Novice riders must also book an Introductory lesson before joining a hack. Greenways Stables has weight limits for novice and experienced riders to ensure the safety and comfort of the horses.
