

Internal Way Academy is a welcoming Tai Chi School located in Ealing/Hanwell, London. The academy has a strong emphasis on the Internal Arts and health, offering weekly training sessions in Brent Valley Park that are open to all levels and abilities.
The training at Internal Way Academy begins with correcting body alignment and releasing tension. Students start with standing exercises to soften and open the body, allowing them to access and feel the internal landscape including the fascia, tendons, and ligaments. This approach combines a focused mind with a stable, soft, and connected body, promoting both mental and physical health.
From a martial arts perspective, Internal Way Academy teaches students to move without relying on muscular force and size. Through a practise known as “push hands,” students learn to absorb, neutralise and redirect force. This approach develops a deep awareness of any disconnection, misalignment, or tension within the body. While it may feel like their balance is being disrupted, it is actually a soft, connected, and centred body expanding into the space of the opponent.
Internal Way Academy also emphasises the importance of incorporating breath into training. Students learn and develop various breathing methods to build, store, harmonise, and move energy around the body. These methods date back thousands of years and were essential for maintaining one's health.
In addition to Tai Chi, Internal Way Academy incorporates other practises such as Qigong, Yi Jin Jing, and Yoga. By using efficient, balanced, and flowing movements and working with soft connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments, students strengthen both their bodies and minds, leading to improved health and energy levels. These skills are not only essential for Tai Chi practise but also enhance other sports practises and overall well-being.
For beginners, Internal Way Academy offers some essential tips. It is important to practise sincerely and with an open, focused mind. Remaining as soft as possible at all times is a key principle. If progress feels slow, it is significant not to give up or get frustrated.
Even just five minutes of training by oneself is better than no training at all. Students are encouraged to give and take honest, constructive feedback from their classmates.
Instructor Spotlight shines on Roger, who has been training in martial arts since 2000. He began with Kung Fu at the Tai Chi Tong Long Association and later trained in Northern White Crane and Southern Jow Gar Kung Fu at the Shaolin Gym. In 2010, he started studying Yang style Tai Chi Chuan under Zibi at YMAA Orient sport, where he discovered his great passion for the Internal Arts.
