About
Welcome to Kamloops Tai Chi Club, where you can find focus, balance, and increased mobility through the practice of Tai Chi. Whether you are a beginner or have experience in Tai Chi, our classes are open to all levels.
Classes are currently being held at the Kamloops Shambhala Centre due to a water main break at the North Shore Community Centre. We offer classes on Tuesdays from 7 p. m. to 9 p.
m. at the North Shore Community Centre located at 452-730 Cottonwood Avenue. The cost is $130 for a punch card for 10 lessons, or $5 per year.
Our instructor, Ian McDonald, has 11 years of practice and is a registered student of Sam Masich. Ian teaches Yang style Tai Chi short forms, Masich 5 section, and Yang 24, along with various qigong exercises. He starts each class with qigong exercises before moving on to teach the form, which consists of 24 moves based on the traditional Yang style.
Tai Chi has been shown to have numerous health benefits, including improving balance, aerobic capacity, cognitive capacity, and reducing the risk of falls in older adults. Research has also shown benefits for individuals with osteoarthritis, Parkinson's disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and more.
