Lakes Tai Chi

Lakes Tai Chi is a reputable and well-established Tai Chi school located in Carnforth, in the picturesque Lake District of North Lancashire. With a focus on Tai Chi and Qigong, Lakes Tai Chi offers a harmonious practise that can be applied to all aspects of life. The school prides itself on providing a warm and friendly environment for beginners who are interested in trying out Tai Chi or Qigong.

Led by experienced and highly regarded instructors, Lakes Tai Chi offers a diverse range of classes and seminars in the South Lakes, Cumbria, and North Lancashire area, specifically in and around Kendal and Lancaster. The school teaches Yang and Chen style T'ai Chi hand forms, Qigong for health, as well as meditation and philosophy. The curriculum also includes practise with various weapons such as swords, sabres, staffs, fans, flutes, and halberds, alongside partnerwork and push hands training in Bagua and HsingYi.

The school's hon. President, John Bolwell, is one of the country's most experienced teachers and practitioners with over 40 years of martial and healing arts experience. He has been a full-time teacher for most of his career and is a key figure in the Tai Chi community, having founded the Tai Chi and Qigong Forum for Health as well as being the Hon. President of the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain.

John's partner, Dee Swift, is a senior instructor with over 30 years of experience teaching Tai Chi and Qigong in the Lake District and Cumbria area. She is also a renowned instructor for the Certificate in Tai Chi for Health course.

Lakes Tai Chi takes pride in its instructional team, which also includes registered instructors Steve Tomlinson and David Redmore. Both instructors have over ten years of experience teaching Tai Chi and are registered with the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain. While Steve has mostly retired, David continues to teach in the Lancaster area.

In addition to regular classes, Lakes Tai Chi organises special events and workshops throughout the year. This includes their annual Christmas Get-Together and their highly anticipated Summer School. The Summer School focuses on learning a lively and distinctive form with the Taoist Horse Tail Whisk, further supplemented by exercises to enhance mind-body connexion and connexion with the ground. It is led by John Bolwell and Dee Swift and provides a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the practise.

Lakes Tai Chi also supports and participates in external events such as Tai Chi Caledonia, where John and Dee are often invited to teach. They also offer weekend Qigong workshops that provide an enriching experience for participants.

With instructors who are members of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain and fully insured, students at Lakes Tai Chi can trust that they are receiving instruction from highly qualified professionals.
