Leicester Huncote Hornets, led by Jan Freakley, is a top BMX club in Leicester, welcoming riders of all ages and skill levels. Known for its community feel, great coaching, and first-rate track facilities, it's the place to be for any BMX fan.
They aim to boost BMX racing in Leicester and create a safe, fun spot for riders to polish their skills and race at different levels. They’ve got everything covered with club races, regional and national races, and even international competitions.
Beginners should start with the club races, which are mini races organised by the Hornets and a great way to get some real racing experience in a friendly setting. From there, you can move on to regional racing, with categories for novices (no race licence needed) and experts (grab a licence from British Cycling).
To race nationally, you’ll need to have done a season of regional racing. The national series has 12 rounds across the UK, with the British Championships being the big one, where you must have a race licence and have done five rounds of the Summer Regional Series.
If you’re dreaming big, the club can help you race internationally. You can join the Euro League or aim for the European Championships (for riders over 9). And then there's the World Championships, the ultimate BMX event held each year.
The Hornets also offer unique BMX party experiences for birthdays. For 65, you get a thrilling two-hour session on the track with all equipment provided, plus medals and certificates for 12 riders.
One of the club's big events is the British Championships, happening from the 27th to the 29th of August 2021. It promises intense competition and lots of fun. Parking is available via Forest Road for a fiver a day or 10 for the weekend, and camping goes for 75 per booking.
Leicester Huncote Hornets is all about BMX racing in Leicester, providing top-notch coaching, fantastic facilities, and plenty of races to join. It’s a brilliant space for both experts and newbies to enjoy and get better at the sport.
